With More Than 1,200 Salons Nationwide, Guests Will Have Many Locations
to Participate in Fundraising Drive to Support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation
Throughout September

September 1, 2011 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Shaving heads to Conquer Kids’ Cancer! Fantastic Sams® Hair Salons, one of the world’s largest full-service hair care franchises, is offering a special promotion throughout September in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to funding the most promising childhood cancer research.  For a minimum $10 donation to St. Baldrick’s, Fantastic Sams will shave the head of any patron wishing to get bald to stand in solidarity with the kids who typically lose their hair during treatment.  With more than 1,200 salons nationwide, Fantastic Sams provides numerous, convenient locations for volunteers to get shorn by one of their expertly trained stylists.

“We are proud to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in their efforts to Conquer Kids’ Cancer,” says Scott Colabuono, president and CEO Fantastic Sams.  “We know we can make a positive impact on St. Baldrick’s fundraising efforts, and our ability to utilize our national footprint in September is a great way for us to help raise funds for life-saving children’s cancer research and awareness throughout Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.”

Fantastic Sams is asking that anyone wanting to participate and have their head shaved make a $10 donation on the salons’ page at Guests should then print a confirmation of their donation and bring it into their local participating salon to have their head shaved.  Donations can also be made via smartphone.  Individual salons will not be collecting donations, so make sure you donate online!

“We are thrilled that Fantastic Sams Hair Salons is joining the ranks of stylists and barbers supporting our cause to find cures for childhood cancers and provide survivors with long and healthy lives,” says Kathleen Ruddy, executive director for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “With so many locations for people to get their heads shaved professionally, we encourage Fantastic Sams’ guests to get involved and show their support by making a donation and visiting a participating salon throughout the month.  We hope this will introduce more people to St. Baldrick’s and have them become ongoing supporters of our mission and raise additional funds as shavees or host events in their community

Each year more than 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and one in five of those won’t survive.  Together, Fantastic Sams and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation encourage all to get involved because it takes shaved heads and donations to Conquer Kids’ Cancer!

About The St. Baldricks’s Foundation
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. St. Baldrick’s funds are granted to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world and to younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow. Funds awarded also enable hundreds of local institutions to participate in national pediatric cancer clinical trials, a child’s best hope for a cure. Since the Foundation’s first grants as an independent charity in 2005, St. Baldrick’s has funded more than $76 million in childhood cancer research.
