Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker Review

Have you started your holiday baking yet?  Are you baking with chocolate?  I got some scrumptious chocolate and cocoa to tell you about, it's from Scharffen Berger!  I made four of the recipes from their website and they were delicious!  For this review I received one Unsweetened Natural Cocoa Powder, One Sweetened Natural Cocoa Powder, one box of Roasted Cacao Nibs, one bar of Unsweetened Fine Artisan Dark Chocolate, one bar of Semisweet Fine Artisan Dark Chocolate, one bar of Bittersweet Fine Artisan Dark Chocolate and Folio Box of Tasting Squares.  This is the richest and most flavorful chocolate I have ever had!  I highly recommend Scharffen Berger Chocolate!

Cocoa

About the Unsweetened Natural Cocoa Powder

Developed for baking and beverages, their Natural Cocoa Powder is made from perfectly roasted and well-fermented beans.  Packaged with recipe ideas in a 6 oz. canister, it is great for any baker or lover of hot chocolate.

Their Natural Cocoa Powder is not 'Dutch' processed, and contains 20-22% cocoa butter.

About the Sweetened Natural Cocoa Powder

With Scharffen Berger Sweetened Natural Cocoa Powder, it is easy to make delicious hot cocoa and chocolate milk.  The only thing that they have added to their exceptional cocoa powder is pure cane sugar - no powdered milk or the alkali used in Dutch-process cocoa.

Like the rest of their products, Sweetened Natural Cocoa Powder is made from hand selected, well-fermented cacao beans from tropical regions around the Equator.  What you taste is the smooth flavor of rich, dark chocolate and nothing more.

The process:
  • Cacao beans are sourced and imported from around the world
  • In the factory, the beans are cleaned and roasted then separated by country and region of origin and roasted in small batches
  • Once the beans have been roasted, they are cracked and shelled into cacao nibs
  • The nibs are ground into a rich brown paste called chocolate liquor in a mélangeur-broyeur (granite mill); next the chocolate liquor is refined with crystal cane sugar and whole vanilla beans in the conche for up to 25 hours
  • The final step is tempering and molding the chocolate into bars
