Each section will show you the best way to be prepared. The media trainers will also show you how to be original and make your story stand out. Plus they'll even show you how those key messages can give you the exposure for your brand. Being brief and being pro-active is important, if you want the right kind of social media exposure. With each section, you'll gradually build your knowledge of how to Deal with the Media! I thought the e-Learning Course on "Deal with the Media" was excellent and I would highly recommend it!
Radio MediaFor the Radio media, they give you the advice to memorize and use your key messages. Always answer the question, but always remember to bridge to your key message. Make sure to mention your brand name several times. Don't use jargon. Tell a couple of interesting examples or stories about your brand. Being warm, friendly and enthusiastic will gain you interest in your brand. Another great tip was not to wear noisy clothes and of course turn off your phone. I liked the last pointer to this section, which was "KISS": Keep It Short & Simple!
TV MediaDid you know that your impact on TV is over 90% based on how you look and sound, less than 10% on what you say? I was kind of surprised on that one. Even on TV media, it's still advised to "KISS", meaning "keep it short & simple." One of the most important pointers is to keep eye contact with the presenter. Your choice of wardrobe is also important, so remember to wear clothes that suit you and the camera. Look the part to be your representative for your brand. Watch your posture, don't slouch or lean forward, but sit straight up. Also being warm friendly and enthusiastic will win you the attention for your brand.
Print MediaAs for print media, make sure you turn off your computer and don't take any personal calls during the interview, due to the fact that details might turn up in the article. Always set a time limit, the longer the interview goes on, the more likely it is that you will be indiscreet. Do remember to have examples of your product ready to demonstrate.
Making the Most of Online MediaYou can link from blogs to your website, it'll get you up on search engine rankings. Become an expert on your brand and love social media. Create interesting posts, that get shared by your contacts and beyond, will help raise awareness of your brand. Picking the right social media channels for your brand will give you more exposure. Always be active on social media at least once a day! Even having only one person in control of your social media could save you from many headaches.
In the Event of a CrisisIf there is a crisis with your brand, nominate people that can talk to the media. Even making sure the staff knows not to discuss the issue with any social media could save your brand. Call a press conference to get your defense out there and don't forget to use other media. Never lie or be evasive, always tell the truth! Don't commit yourself, until you know all the facts. Always be thoroughly prepared. Remember the three Rs: Regret, Reassurance and Remedy!
