Laughing BuddhaThe Laughing Buddha was a real monk and his name was Budai! He lived in the 10th century in China and he was a wandering zen monk. When he wandered into villages, he would have a big bag that had candy and toys in it, that he would throw to the children, so the children loved him and would climb on his lap. Budai would laugh madly and it would be contagious, so all that gathered around him would start to laugh. He was a big man and he actually had a big stomach.
Many times Budai would sit under the trees and preach about the Buddhist teachings, where he told facinating stories.
People would go to Budai, when they had problems and Budai would do miracles to help the people in need. Budai is always smiling or laughing, so he was called the "Laughing Buddha or Happy Buddha."
His smiling face, helps us to remember not to take life so serious and have fun along the way. Budai is admired for his happiness, plenitude and wisdom of contentment. In popular folklore it states that rubbing his belly brings wealth, good luck, and prosperity.
Buddha statues come in many different positions, one of the positions that are in this set is where he is holding a ingot, which is shaped like a boat, which represents that your fortune is coming in. This Buddha brings prosperity and states that money is not far away.
This set of the Laughing Buddha comes with six statues, that are about an inch high. There is a great amount of detail, but since they are so small, it's hard to determine what items the Buddha statue is holding.
These Buddha Statues are really cute and you can place them in many different areas, but in Feng Shui the Laughting Buddha has certain places to be placed for good fortune and good luck!
